- 2019: Ogun APM Flags Off Campaign, Adopts Buhari’s Presidential Candidature
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Ogun chapter yesterday held a mega rally to unveil their Governorship candidate, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade for the March 2019 election.
Akinlade is the anointed candidate of the state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. He, together with some Amosun’s loyalists recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to APM on grounds that the APC National Leadership robbed Akinlade of the Governorship candidature.
Akinlade told a mammoth crowd at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, venue of the event that Ogun state electorate had resolved to resist extension of political hegemony to the state by “external forces” by voting the candidate of their choice in the 2019 general elections.
Akinlade in his speech announced that they had adopted President Muhammadu Buhari as their Presidential candidate
The crowd at the rally witnessed party members, leaders, candidates for various offices in the next election and traditional rulers.
Akinlade, described their defection from APC to APM, as “tortuous and challenging.”
His words “For about two months, you are all witnesses that we had to fight for the freedom of our people to freely choose the government of their choice.”
“We had to contend with some forces that are determined to reverse the march to prosperity in Ogun State”, Akinlade said.
He promised to sustain Amosun’s “Mission To Rebuild” the state with improvement on road infrastructure, health care delivery, education, rural development, agriculture and youth empowerment.
The gubernatorial candidate boasted that with the people’s support, “APM’s victory is assured in 2019 election.”
The national chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle in his brief remark also adopted Buhari’s Presidential candidature.
In his welcome address, the Director General of campaign council, Sarafa Tunji Ishola described the massive crowd at the rally as acceptance of the new party.
Ishola, who was the Minister of Mines and Steel, also expressed confidence that APM governorship candidate, Adekunle would win the next gubernatorial poll in the state.
“This turnout Anifies where votes will go to in 2019. The Ogun State People have spoken today and they have spoken well,” the Campaign DG said.
Meanwhile a chieftain of the APC in Ogun State has described the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari by the APM in Ogun State, as a comical show and a Greek gift for which the President and the party cannot be deceived.
In a statement yesterday, Oladunjoye said those behind the “purported endorsement” are “hiding behind one finger” to reap where they did not sow”: let me tell you clearly that these characters are aware of the popularity of Mr. President and they want to catch-in on that to promote their infant-party. Good enough, our dear President cannot be deceived by their duplicitous antics”.
